Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

I'd agree with all of those, plus Marvão and down the Guadiana to VRSA, plus Trás os Montes - and the Minho region and up into Galicia.

Then there's the Alentejo Litoral, the Alto Alentejo...

Re: supermarket fruit and veg

Perhaps it's best to see what the Portuguese eat - after all, lettuce and tomato are hardly an unknown quantity in Portuguese food. However, it's also best to recognise that the Portuguese tend to...

Re: Expelled from Hungary

So pray, how would that work if you were German, or French, etc. and already citizen of a Schengen state?

As you say, details are key here.

Re: Expelled from Hungary

This is not correct, a quick search will confirm that. Being excluded from or refused entry by one Schengen country does not automatically mean you are excluded from all Schengen countries, although...

Re: Is there no gas central heating in Rural France?

Gas distribution is often confined to urban areas..... and sewage systems also. This is not particular to France, even in the UK many areas have no mains gas and some are not connected to central...

Re: Expelled from Hungary

Without direct knowledge, I'd guess that "being asked to leave" Hungary is the biggest problem. AFAIK, there is unlikely to be an EU or Schengen-wide block on you, but there may well be something...

Re: Grandfather clause for buildings

I'd agree - in the end, all will depend on the local Camara's interpretation..... so looking for a global answer seems fruitless.

Talk to the Camara, do NOT trust anything you may be told by an...

Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

I haven't stayed in Porto for a long time, but used to stay regularly. Grande Hotel do Porto is right on Sta.Caterina, Hotel da Bolsa was also handy and around the corner from our favourite eatery.....

Re: Moving back to the UK

I'd agree about leaving your car when you leave the country....... why set yourself up fo issues down the line? My Lisbonite other-half doesn't go much on any of the offshore folk. I mentioned a...

Re: Schengen - EU Family Member

Yes, I've had fun regarding being an Irish Citizen resident in the UK...... including at the British Embassy in Lisbon where the counter-staff refused to give my Portuguese wife-to-be a "Fiancee...

Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

I'd agree with the final part.

Porto Airport is well connected to the city - there is a very frequent metro service, which might be a better option than an Uber, etc. But it does add to the time...

Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

I'd agree about a break in Lisbon, though that adds costs obviously. However, breaking the journey in two makes the entire trip less arduous. Lisbon is still a great city, though much of the charm is...

Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

CP holds trains when an incoming connection is delayed. I have done the trip from Funcheira to Aveiro countless times and never had an issue - plus the pensioner discount on railfares makes the cost...

Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

Yes.... plus the time and cost to get to and from the airports, plus parking. Porto airport is not in the City, it is quite a distance away - and if you are not close to Faro, then this too could be...

Re: Lagos to Porto. Car or Train?

You really don't want the hassle of driving in cities, finding parking and chancing damage. You almost certainly won't use your car in Porto anyway - and the public transport is great. Plus, if you...

Re: Question regarding Consulmer rights in Portugal

Yes - AFAIK you must get what has been noted on your receipt - otherwise you would have been "enganado". If it was any of the major stores, I would physically go back to the store where you purchased...

Re: Why are the potatoes so rubbish?

I'd have a fried slice in place of a farl, but there's a distinct lack of praitie in that.... ;)

Oh. I'm well aware of Garron and his posts....... a man from the "Wesht Coasht" himself! But a good...

Re: Spain's propertry price surge

OK, but this being a Spanish forum, maybe a look at the comparative increases between Spain and Portugal is pertinent....

Re: Why are the potatoes so rubbish?

You said the same thing (actually mentioning Peru) back in post #17 and were answered in duplicate......

I believe the Rt.Hon.Oink is referring, not to the original nationality of the vegetable,...

Re: Spain's propertry price surge

It is an Iberian phenomenon...... property prices in Lisbon have tripled in the last few years - and even out in the Alentejo, property prices are zooming.

In Olhao, the Italians arrived and the...

Re: Ten days back and counting...

This gets even weirder.... I live fairly close to Woodbridge, but in a semi-rural area - and I moved from London because I was internally head-hunted to Adastral (I think I was one of the last to be...

Yes, your dates coincide quite well with my moving to rural Suffolk, after 20 years "inside the North Circular". Like you, I started in temporary accommodation, which felt just that. It was a year...

Re: Ten days back and counting...

I'll be interested to hear your experiences over the next few months.... it sounds as if you are taking change in your stride.

One query - do you feel "at home" back in the UK?
