Talk to ING in Britain before coming here. They have banks in both countries.
I was also able to open a Commonwealth account in London before we moved here using Uk ID.

Haven't used one here in Oz but have when I lived in London. They are great and as a result of using them I got rid of my car which saved me a fortune. Hopefully these'll get going in Oz soon.
