Re: Job offer Wellington but wife concerned

The only time I have to queue at the shops is when the trains have just emptied at 5.30 or just before school pickup! Love the Pak n Save Shop and Go system. When are YOU going?! lol De-railing? ...

Re: Things NZ has never heard of

De-scaler is in Pak n'Save. With the cleaning stuff, where you would expect it to be.

Pamol / Calpol. Same thing, different name. As you might expect in a different country.

Re: Money money money!

You do need to really work out why you want to come. It's not 'a new life', it's just a bit different. Work is still work, bills still need to be paid and building a new social life can be tough. ...

Re: Thinking of moving to the Kapiti Coast

Good luck with everything! We live in Kapiti too and wouldn't live anywhere else. :)

Re: Money money money!

I honestly can't quite tell, are you taking the mickey out of me? I never claimed to be flush, or that my (admittedly large) house was fancy. It is doable, if you budget and your expectations are...

Re: Money money money!

Hi BEVS, I did say total earnings for everything. I've laid all my other finances bare! Yes, we get tax credits. I included them in the figure. :)

Re: Money money money!

Yes but thrown cords are standard. And at $450 for a thrown cord of macrocarpa,I'll take the pine.

And that community services card doesn't really save me much you know.

Re: Money money money!

[QUOTE=bearskin;11769703]Are you sure it is 3 cords of firewood? If I had the space to store that, and burnt it over one winter, I would be very warm indeed.

Oh yes. Three very large trailers...

Re: Money money money!

Oh and I forgot to mention, due to being an awful ping-pong-pom (though now happy as), we lost more money than I care to think about and struggled madly for the deposit.

Re: Money money money!

I should point out the house needed (and still needs) lots of cosmetic work but was sound. Mortgage payments are $800 per fortnight and rates of about $680 per quarter. Commuting is $300 per month...

Re: Money money money!

Well we have four children (10, 8 and 5 yr twins). Total earnings are about 75k for everything pre-tax. The children enjoy three clubs each (football, dance, scouts and swimming lessons) and I'd...

Re: School years in NZ vs England?

My children moved over here with no issues and love their school. They're all doing really well in all subjects. I wouldn't go back to the rigidity of the UK system with all the testing and...

Re: 18 months in and seriously homesick

I went back to the UK from Nelson when I was pregnant because I was 18 months in and every fibre of my being LONGED for home.

Three months after those twins were born I was climbing the walls in...

Re: Flights Nz1 to Nz5 are they expecting too much?

We flew from Leeds to London Heathrow then LHR to Auckland. We had to collect our luggage in London and check it in again due to a mistake. We had 2.5 hours and two children in tow. I have never...

Re: Thinking of coming back......2nd time lucky?!?!

Oh - and we're poor. Awfully poor. We lost everything money-wise. But you know what? I don't care because I love where I live so much. For me it was the right thing to do.

Re: Thinking of coming back......2nd time lucky?!?!

Hi, I came back after fleeing Nelson for lots of reasons, some very similar to yours! Kiwi husband's family are there, we went in 2008. He couldn't find work, I had to get a job, I was miserable...

Re: cost of living ?

(sorry to spam) but also wanted to add I've got four children in school. Once you add up the lunches, school fees, stationery and after-school clubs it can get a bit tight. Food is the worst thing,...

Re: cost of living ?

I lied about my income. It's in the fifties, I checked with my better half. lol I still feel it's a good trade-off. It's a reasonable wage in the UK or Eurozone, it's pretty good for NZ, and we...

Re: cost of living ?

I find the cost of living high, but it's all relative. My husband doesn't earn megabucks, but it's in the 70's, so not too bad for NZ. We didn't buy a terribly expensive house, but it's still so...

Re: Nelson to Christchurch

If you want to chat about it anytime, just pm me. It was hard to leave Nelson, but I don't regret it for a moment. I never go into the city, but I like to know it's there.

Re: Nelson to Christchurch

I used to live in Nelson and left it for Kapiti. Nelson is beautiful, but full-time can be a hard nut to crack. I'd never go back. I love being within easy reach of a city but still being...
