Re: International Banking

The part about them not being a bank and therefore not being covered by the Government compensation scheme sort of worries me, as we would be looking to transfer the proceeds from a house sale in the...

Re: HELP! Opening UK (NI) bank account from US

Dave, I think we'd prefer to open an account with the likes of Wise, who are specifically set up to be "international" (online). As soon as I get back home, one of the first things I will do when I...

Re: Anyone around in Central AR

No problem mate. Like I said, there are a few of us in the LR area; most of the guys I know through football, but I'm sure there are others. LR is OK, not the best, not the worst.

Re: Anyone around in Central AR

Gareth, I'm here in LR....there are a few of us Brits in this area, but not many. Been here for 5 years now, it's fine but it'll never be 'home', really. Betty's Cafe is closed, as far as I know; we...

Re: Has Anyone Else Received "Self Certification of Tax Residency" Forms?

Has Anyone Else Received "Self Certification of Tax Residency" Forms?

I have just received a letter (along with forms to fill & return) from the bank I had an account with when we lived in the UK, asking that I "self certify" the country of my "tax residency", which...

Re: Knightsbridge Visa Medical

Er, that's the point...they don't. And I'm sure it's no easier for Americans looking to gain entry into the UK.

However, if someone with the power to effect the change took the time to 'care', it...

Re: Knightsbridge Visa Medical

Frankly, it's ridiculous in this day & age of Internet communication that ALL Brits wishing to obtain visas for the U.S. are forced to travel to London (enduring a lot of additional expense) to have...

Re: UK citizen, US wife, living in US thinking of England.....

Yes, I know, but she felt that 'diluting' her American citizenship would have been a betrayal...now, especially as she is a dyed-in-the-wool Republican watching Trump destroy their chances of winning...

Re: UK citizen, US wife, living in US thinking of England.....

You haven't s.o.s....since we'd be moving back to NI in the first place, getting into the UK isn't the problem...getting signed up for the benefits system would be, though, so we won't be going down...

Re: UK citizen, US wife, living in US thinking of England.....

Re: UK citizen, US wife, living in US thinking of England.....

Re: schools houston ???

Fair enough...I'm only speaking from 'knowledge' my wife has, and she grew up in Katy...perhaps it was different 30 years ago.

Re: schools houston ???

Unless things have changed drastically, when we investigated sending our kids there a couple of years ago (before we moved to Arkansas), it was EXTORTIONATELY expensive, way beyond what I could...
