Returning on H1B

Hi everyone, just curious if anyone has ever left the US after being on an H1B and then returned? I am going back to the UK after 5 years in the US (4 on H1B) to study for a masters at my dream...

Came over on an H4 visa, applied for a job and got sponsored for an H1B in the next cycle. I work in insurance and had three years' experience when I moved over.

@ sherbert - I'm guessing you mean the H1B - that was the usual way, applying for jobs and finding a company ready to sponsor me! :)

My career break dates have just been finalised, so I won't be able to go for 6 months as originally planned, but 4 instead. Hopefully that might not look as bad as before!...

I do have a job coming back, I will speak to HR to get letter stating that - hopefully that might improve my chances. I haven't actually got an ESTA yet - can I apply for one now?...
