Thanks guys. I managed to speak to VW dealer in Marin who is going to sort me out, cheers. ExpatRide do really require a lot of cash upfront for a decent deal.

Hey, just getting up to speed on this old(er) thread. Did you guys approach the dealership direct or go to VW centrally. I can't seem to find a central place to apply? E.

Thanks everyone for their advice. I'll check out the thread. I have a car for 2 weeks initially so will see what happens once I get there. That Avis deal sounds good, I used Thrifty, good price for 2...
