He was looking at small apartments in Evanston, it's a studio but at least you're not in the hood and more of your payment is tax deductible.

And high schools are a whole other ball game to...

Now this place, this is more of a deal. Right in the middle of the loop, literally walk to everything, and cheap enough that you can keep it and rent it out once you move out to the burbs.

Napperville is right, it's a boring place to live unless you drive a minivan. It's great if you have kids but in the Chicago suburbs, condos are generally located in the less desirable school...

The safer parts of Evanston are the parts where condos cost way more than $50k. Yes everyone will tell you to move to Evanston, but they're not talking about this part. Most people recommending...

Also in Illinois you do need a lawyer but your realtor will be able to recommend one. You should only need to pay them about $250 assuming it's a simple transaction.

Since any employment visas have to be initiated by the employer it isn't worth getting your own lawyer yet, any lawyer that tries to tell you they can help you with that for a price is to be avoided.

I have had the same experience as Bob regarding differences between districts, never mind states. Picking the wrong side of the street to live on can bite you on the behind.
