Thanks for the further replies.

Agree about high cost of living areas but if $120k nets $6k or so a month, rent=$2.5k say and another $2k(!!) for everything else, that's $1.5k left for savings...

Hmm, I will have to ask my current boss about this. Last time I mentioned, it sort of fell on deaf ears...

There is a dire lack of informed pay calculators for Massachusetts and California, no?...

Hmm, I do currently work for a US company.. it'd be a relocation to the East Coast on approx $90k (estimated). Alternative is this new opportunity in Cupertino which I'm guessing to be $120k+. I...

My girlfriend was looking online and she says she can't come across even if married unless I was a resident? Surely that can't be right - I thought it would be ok if I had a working VISA...

Actually, that is what I've heard! The guy who interviewed me (nice guy, real smart) said they had to hire design engineers from the smaller universities as the MIT grads weren't so hot when it came...

CRIKEY... on some of these threads they're saying that rent is upward of $3000 PER MONTH!! Surely this can't be right, how can anybody on a low wage afford that?

Her children are 22, 18 and 16. The 18 year-old would likely be moving with us. Would that be an issue? Off to bed soon but look forward to any help - truly appreciated :)
