Re: Processionary Caterpillar Traps?

This year I injected each nest with a small squirt of pesticide when they first appeared.
I have a 3mm tube at the end of a 3 meter rod, attached to a backpack agriculture sprayer. I insert the tube...

Re: Poor air quality over Portugal

What a scorcher today! 36C.
I had some guys working on my roof, I suggested they wait until tomorrow but they just kept on going.
For a while at least.
I need to go up there myself to do some...

Re: Poor air quality over Portugal

It's not the weather we paid for!

It seems like it went straight from being cold to being hot, without our usual excellent spring.

Anyway, no doubt the good wind will be back soon and we can...

Elevated fire risk begins now and over the next few days in southern Portugal.

Re: Solar power shop

They always say they're giving me a big discount... I've been buying from them for 18 years. But I'm still a private buyer.
The other shop you recomended only sells to business customers.

Re: Solar power shop

Thanks, I'll check it out.
I have bought a lot from Rolear Mais; I was there just the other day in fact. But I've found their prices a bit stiff.

When I needed a big power cable (BIG), a shop in...

Re: supermarket fruit and veg

I also find that Lidl has good veg; I don't want to like the big store that kills the little guys, but that's the reality.

Re: screen doors

That makes sense; in reality, we mainly like to keep the door open for the dog to go in and out.
I added a little piece of wood to the screen door for him to open it with. But this is also why it...

Re: screen doors

Did he find decent hardware?

The doors I made are really simple, just hardwood frames with screen, that slap over the doorway.

Re: Solar power shop

It could go bad years later if the inverters are grey market imports, or counterfeit. It can be really difficult to tell.
For purchases of this nature, a shop has to have a level of trust.

Re: Solar power shop

Thanks; that's interesting.
Their prices on the inverters are unbelievable; I mean that literally.
Their battery prices are not so exciting.
There seem to be no verified reviews of the site...

Solar power shop

Can anyone recommend an EU shop to buy an inverter and compatible battery?

It's sort of a minefield of poor descriptions, huge variations in price, incompatible parts, and the need for untold...

Re: Sold flat in UK, CGT due in Portugal as well as UK?

No NHR, we've been here for 18 years.
We were intending to sell a property in NL, so we asked our tax advisors.
There is no capital gains tax in NL, so I assumed we'd have to pay here in Portugal....

Re: Sold flat in UK, CGT due in Portugal as well as UK?

I don't think so; Portugal only levies capital gains tax on Portuguese property.
Countries get to tax property gains at home, even when the owner lives abroad.
I was told.

screen doors

I couldn't find screen doors when I rebuilt the house 18 years ago; maybe things have changed by now, but it seems like screen doors are just not a Portuguese thing.
(They use curtains).
Anyway,...

Re: Grandfather clause for buildings

A structure is one thing; a residence is another. It's a morass of troublesome bureaucracy for sure.

I did actually buy a (permitted) house with an unpermitted 70m2 chicken / pig shed on the...

Just go to the post office; you can send registered if you want, or special fast service which as far as I can tell, is no faster than the regular service.

I just had a DPD delivery disappear into...

Re: How to Register on DPD?

I use CTT.
I've had documents lost with expensive courier services too; so why pay the extra? I think it's all hype.
I've been sending quite a few document packs lately, including passport both...

Re: Any British Motorcyclists on this site?

I had the same experience; I was told they just do that, because (supposedly) some countries don't require a seperate test, which Portugal wants to happen.
I was told that the only way to get a...

Re: IPO test codigo?

Usually if they note it, it must be fixed before next inspection.
For the oil leak, washing the motor (under and around) just before the test should do the trick unless the leak is serious.
Number...

Re: Insurance Claim?

Make a claim with your home insurance.
They'll probably actually pay; E-redes won't, even though it is (literally) their fault.
