I called the US embassy to make sure. As I am not entering the states under the conditions of the VISA I.e. to take up residence and start working, I should use the ESTA.

Well yes but then I have to go through a lengthy process of paperwork when I arrive that I'd rather do when I arrive for real with my family.

Things have changed just slightly. We have an office in White Plains so I have the choice to live in New York rather than Jersey. I may well now look at not taking the train to Manhattan every day...

I don't know how to word this one, but I was trying to get my head around what an acceptable monthly rental payment would be versus annual income. I only ask as I am sure there are going to be costs...
