Re: N400 - Citizenship application question

Absolutely! But the question is there and its answer is certified under penalty of perjury.

You're not asked to provide further details or evidence for that question - just answer yes or no....

Re: N400 - Citizenship application question

There's still that overly broad question 22: "Have you EVER committed, assisted in committing, or attempted to commit, a crime or offense for which you were NOT arrested?". Running a red light and...

Re: Cover letter? CR-1 petition

It may not be necessary, but a cover letter/table of contents won't necessarily be discarded - mine for the I-130 petition got scanned and forms part of my A-file. There wasn't much to it: "please...

Re: When can/should I start applying for jobs? (CR-1 visa)

Aside from all the other advice, I would say "yes" - complete any online applications as if you were already in the country and authorized to work - otherwise you'll most likely be ignored. It's...

Re: IAS and Green Card Needed

That's almost certainly the case. Once you enter the US, your CR-1 visa is cancelled and automatically becomes a temporary green card valid for one year - you can use it anywhere that people want to...

Re: Visa Journey & USCIS timelines

Yes, you have to take a lot of what you read there with a pinch of salt, but it certainly has its uses - especially if you're not migrating from the UK (or not British, but then what are you doing...

Re: Green card expires Nov...

You can travel abroad with just your passport - the expired conditional green card plus letter are only useful when traveling back to the US.

Re: Expired green card. Need to travel

The CPB Inspector's Field Manual states that "a LPR presenting an expired 10-year Form I-551 [green card] should be advised to file a Form I-90 with USCIS. No further action is to be taken". The...

Re: Trips to the USA with green card application in progress

Not just familiar with the "right way to do immigration" - financially invested in doing it the right way.

I spent the entire year my green card was being processed with valid VWP stamps in my...

Re: Victims of identity theft while non-citizen?

I don't - but I know they have information about me - as far as I'm concerned their breach check just confirms what I already knew: they had my data and didn't take proper care of it. What's really...

Re: Total newbie

You'd be surprised. The very top tiers would typically be highly political, but the ones I know a little about also have a bunch of regular professionals and general service staff below that.

Re: Victims of identity theft while non-citizen?

I'm not aware that my identity's been stolen - at least, not yet. Equifax says my data was involved in their recent breach and I had a couple of pokes on one credit card during the affected time...

Re: Green card expires Nov...

Unless you're going to Canada (and don't have a passport that allows visa-free travel to Canada), you don't need a green card to travel abroad - it's really only useful for coming back to the US.

Re: QQ what's my alien number?

That certainly explains why attorney's fees are so high - y'all just add a zero at the end! A xxx-xxx-xxx would be nine digits, not eight!

Re: QQ what's my alien number?

Mine from 2016 was still only 8 digits - the leading zero only appeared on the green card - visa and IDS only have 8 digits.

Re: Electric appliances help

Both ends of the cable have specific names. For reference, "kettle style" is C13, figure 8 is C7, and cloverleaf is C5. For the wall socket, you want NEMA 1-15 (2 pin unearthed) or 5-15 (3 pin with...

Re: Electric appliances help

Yeah, british plugs with adapters do not play well with US sockets. And you can probably pick up a new cable for less than the price of a plug adapter.

Re: Electric appliances help

Oh, yeah. Don't mess with the mains! But for Brits moving to the US, if there's no motor or heating element involved, it's a lot safer to plug 240v gear into 120v sockets than going the other way.

Re: QQ what's my alien number?

On current green cards, you can see the A# in the gold stripe on the back - it's the same number as the USCIS# on the front.
