I'd say that how quickly the ice melts would depend on how hot the compartments you are on in the train, etc are.

Yay! I'm glad that you've sorted it out so far (and just remember to be firm with KLM at the airport!) :D

One tip for the trip is to freeze the water (not full up obviously) in the water holder...
