Experts I have spoken with tell me that they know of no sure tax-effective way of bringing a UK pension to Canada.

(a) personal or company
(b) did you contribute or your employer or both?

I presume you were not a 'deemed' resident of Canada at the time (house or spouse in Canada...

I've heard from two sources that Canadian legislation is now proposing that the transfer from a trust to a trust is taxable. The legislation may even have been passed.

Anyone heard that?

One would think that would be the case, but the first Revenue Canada agent told me over the phone that you must have contributed to the pensions yourself.

You are absolutely right: 25% is not tax-free in Canada. Revenue Canada told me only last week how they will tax it.
So HMRC may not tax you on a 25% withdrawal if your pension would have allowed...
