Yeah, because I only had contact with my dad in 2000 when I was 40 it seems to put the rules out of the window!

Hello. I agree. I didn't think that there was a 'retirement' visa. From what I was reading, these are retired people from the UK who live there all year round. Maybe they renew their 6 month visas?...
