Re: Ottawa or Toronto?

I'll second Kingston! It was never on my radar until I moved here for work. It's beautiful and a great location. Montreal is three hours drive, Toronto is 2-3 hours (depends on how fast you drive ;)...

Re: Moving to Canada, without a job lined up.. Success stories... Or not...

I moved to Canada without a job lined up and had in fact quit a job I loved that paid a small fortune for working just six months a year. To me, it was worth it for the chance of an adventure. I was...

Re: IEC 2015

Ah well, it's all over for my sister. She got rejected for not submitting her application in time. Her CAL had an expiry of 14 days but when she went to upload it to CIC, it gave her a 60 day...

Re: IEC 2015

Thanks, I'll pass that on to her. She's really worried now because her CAL had an expiry date on it and she thinks she submitted everything after that date (by about three weeks). Now she's checked...

Re: IEC 2015

I'm pretty certain that's where some applications go! Along with any sense of reasonable timelines that sees people who applied later get finalised earlier. Like yours, my sister has been waiting...

Re: IEC 2015

Congrats Viddi! Where are you headed? And now I remember how frustrating this wait was, especially seeing weird timelines and wondering if they're processing at random! Haha.

Re: IEC 2015

Ok, thanks for the email! I had no idea about everyone else. I have PR already and had both IEC replies quickly and I remember she said the waiting time was 6 weeks when she applied so naturally we...

Re: IEC 2015

Does anyone have a phone number for the office? My sister applied in the first round and has heard nothing; her application online hasn't been updated to say they're looking at it. She can't find a...

Re: GPS recomendations please

I have a TomTom and I've also used Garmin and I find TomTom's interface easier to use. Mine was bought in the UK and I downloaded the Canada&USA map to it and have had no issues with it. The Garmin I...

Re: TEFAQ pour CSQ

Hey,

Not sure if this will help because my memory of the exam is foggy (I took it in 2011) and so some of this may have changed... The exam is split into sections and for the TEFaQ you'll be...

Re: Ontario Car Insurance

I'll also echo Johnsons being a good company to use. I had been in Quebec for three years before moving to Ontario (so hardly a new driver to Canada) but Ontario companies were quoting me anything up...

Re: How do you deal with being away from family?

Maybe it just takes some time for the feeling of a 'lack' to go away? I went through a bad patch in late 2013-early 2014 and that helped make me feel closer to the people that stuck around. Likewise...

Re: How do you deal with being away from family?

It's somewhat of a relief to know this is 'normal.' I keep saying, 'Just six more months, just six more months,' and it's been 3.5 years now. I'm not sure how much longer I should keep doing that....

Re: How do you deal with being away from family?

I think that's part of what is contributing to my unsettled feeling in Canada. My friends in the UK also moved abroad, most to Oz but some to Europe, but over here everyone is already set in their...

Re: How do you deal with being away from family?

My parents have always supported me in my choices. My Mum says she wishes I was closer but also says that she knows that I have to do my own thing and would never hold me back. Moving back would...

How do you deal with being away from family?

Hi,

I had an experience about a year ago that made me question whether I've made the right choice in moving here. Basically I was flying home to visit my family for Xmas and the woman next to me...

Re: Ontario car insurance - UK experience not being recognised

I did! I went with Johnson in the end and I feel like I got a good deal because they recognised my UK experience. Certainly significantly better than the other quotes I received!

Re: IEC to LMO/CAQ Quebec

I'm a little confused about why you even need the LMO. If you apply for the CSQ now then you should have it by the end of the year then apply for PR through the Quebec Skilled Worker programme...

Re: PR Card(PNP Ontario),can I relocate to BC?

Quebec don't require a job offer for the stream I applied through. In any case, at the time I applied, I *did* have a job. I lived in Quebec for three years before I was forced to move for financial...

Re: PR Card(PNP Ontario),can I relocate to BC?

I'm going to have to offer the other side. I was sponsored by Quebec and I'm not there right now. I didn't have a job (was made redundant) and those on here who know me and work in my industry...

Re: Any geologists on here?

I'm a geologist. For sure, don't pursue iron ore here. That was the industry I was in and neither myself nor any of my colleagues and contacts are currently working with it. It's in a bust cycle so...

Re: Good sites or Insurers for Travel Insurance (for IEC)

I used Ace Traveller Insurance. They have coverage for exchange workers. From memory, the policy was about £200-250 for 12 months but maybe I had winter sports added too (can't remember). I found...

Re: coming to Canada, and the future of our children

Absolutely. I've had the pleasure of working with many people in Canada who have done one of the practical college courses at CEGEP or wherever and they're so much more prepared for the workplace...

Re: Offshore Training - Hibernia Rig

I used to work offshore but it was in the UK. My survival training was in the UK too but it's pretty much the same around the world. You'll probably have a few theory sessions on HSE legislation,...

Re: coming to Canada, and the future of our children

Just throwing my 2c in but I was educated at university in both the UK and Canada (as an exchange student) and the UK education system is generally better, although I found the facilities at UBC blew...
