the only problem I had in the US with M/card was getting petrol(read gas) from the pump as some require you to enter a zip code...........and apparently 90210 doesnt cut it

sorry but the bill lies with you as it was from a foreign object in the machine, not the machine its self. A bit like blocking the toilet. Nothing wrong with it till you put an obstruction in it....
