Re: 'Reception' classes in Copenhagen

It's a very reasonable assumption. Even private schools here are subsidised by the State. So while fees still vary greatly, there are affordable Intl Schools to be found here.

Re: 'Reception' classes in Copenhagen

Fees at certain Intl Schools here in CPH are nowhere near as extortionate as you might be led to believe. We pay no more than £250 per month each for our two (5- and 8-yo).

Re: I want to move to New York, how hard is this gonna be?

Based on the above, I certainly wouldn't exclude academia as a future career option. If you are passionate about understanding the nuts and bolts at a deeper level, then it could be worth pursuing....

Re: Third Country National H1-B stamping - Scandanavia?

We're currently living about 10 mins north of the city centre/downtown by train. I can definitely recommend Copenhagen. It's a beautiful, vibrant city with a very friendly populace. It's also very...

Re: Third Country National H1-B stamping - Scandanavia?

When living in California on an H1-B several years ago (originally from UK) and interviewing in Europe, with all the relevant documentation in-hand, I successfully obtained an H1-B stamp (sticker) in...

Xmas gifts for "The Killing"-loving parents from CPH

As the thread title suggests, my parents in the UK are *big* fans of "The Killing". Despite living in Copenhagen for nearly a year and a half, we have remained completely oblivious to the show and -...

Re: J1 stay and tax

I second Caleyjag. I chose from the get-go not to take advantage of the tax-treaty as I figured on being in California for a three-year postdoc. In the end, I was there for eight years as a...

Re: J-1 Two-Year-Ban

Not that it really helps but I've previously been on an H1B as a postdoc. I was initially on a J-1 for three years then my employer sponsored me for the H1B which I was on for 5 years until I left...

Re: Apply for a USA visa at a different European embassy?

Living in Cali until recently (UK citizen), I successfully renewed an H1B in Frankfurt then again in Copenhagen when I flew back to Europe for job interviews. I booked interviews online through each...

Re: Moving To Denmark - Any Advice?

We really like it here. We (me from UK, wife from Germany, 2 kids born in US) moved here in June of last year from SoCal where we'd been for the last 8 years. Our kids (nearly 2 and 5) are in a...

Re: Copenhagen??

We (myself, wife and 4- and 1.5-yr olds) just moved here in July (from SoCal, although I'm English, my wife German). The city is beautiful, quite compact and easily navigatable by public transport on...

Re: J1 visa (researcher) tax question.

I'm just leaving the US after 8 years here as a postdoc, first on a J1, then H1B in SoCal. If you're confident that you'll be here less than two years, then go ahead and take advantage of the tax...

Re: Are There Any Copenhageners Out There?

So I'm guessing that the Copenhagen Brit expat scene is not on fire...;)

I'm surprised, as I visited at least one Irish pub, a S. African/Brit food shop, and a Cornish Pasty Shop which had opened...

Question Are There Any Copenhageners Out There?

I wondered if there are any Brit or US expats out there who have lived/live in Copenhagen and have any nuggets of wisdom to impart to a family of four about to move there?

Briefly, my wife (a...

Re: Orange County residents

I'm split between the two! I work during the week in La Jolla and spend my weekends in Irvine. FWIW, I agree with the wealthier areas being more arrogant but thought it not PC to mention...

Whereabouts in the OC are you moving to? Having lived in Irvine for 8 years, I honestly think you get the same variety in peoples' attitudes as you do wherever you go. The greater confidence of young...
