So I'm talking crap and meant non-immigrant... Really need to find an accountant who can handle all this sort of stuff soon. Only 2 months till we move and have managed to organise precisely nothing...

Halifax have a fee-free card (Clarity) that might work for a 3-month trip. I used it during a recent holiday for purchases and the occasional ATM trip (though how often do you really need to do that...

Hi,
I'm a PhD student moving to Mn, USA for twelve months, starting in April and taking my Wife and (by then) two kids with me.
I should be getting an F1 or J1 visa so I'm not yet too worried...

We're off to Minnesota, USA for a year, starting in mid-April.
I'll be going as a student so don't think Visa will be a problem (!) and will definitely be coming back so won't be...
