Re: Iced Hockey

I did actually scream "YES!!!" when that final shot went in. I think I've passed the initiation as a Vancouverite...

Tickets for the semi-finals start at $117.50 apparently!

Re: Canadian experience

Well it's certainly frustrating as an outsider. I can currently vouch for that having heard the "no Canadian experience" and "over-qualified" lines a few times since moving here a month ago.

But...

Re: I hope there's a riot.

Haven't been as tense as that since the Welsh Grand Slam of 2008...

Cracking game though, and Granville Street was going berserkers tonight!

Re: International Experience Canada

Shouldn't be an issue - just make sure you apply for the second year before you turn 36!

Re: Accountancy temp/contract jobs Vancouver

No industry experience unfortunately - all of my experience has been in public or private sector audit practice, which does pigeon-hole me quite a bit even before taking into account that I'm...

Re: Which Bank are you with and Why ?

I'll join in the PC Financial love-in. Awesome deal! The only downer is no "branch network" as such but if you're just after a basic chequing account it's pretty much perfect.

Re: Accountancy temp/contract jobs Vancouver

That's great, thanks again for that. Karma coming your way!

IFRS does seem to be the big USP for me, and I have tried to highlight that on my resume. Other than that I do have Big 4 experience,...

Re: Accountancy temp/contract jobs Vancouver

Thanks JonboyE - I have been in touch with Accountemps and have applied for a couple of positions, heard nothing yet. I wasn't too impressed with them though - I followed the Wiki advice and called a...

Accountancy temp/contract jobs Vancouver

Howdy all - prepare to be bored! :)

I'm a UK-qualified Chartered Accountant over in Vancouver on an IEC one-year visa, so I'm looking for temp or contract work (I'm guessing permanent jobs would...

Re: Processing time IEC

Er, from what I've read Christmasoompa was trying to help you, but for some reason you've offered a somewhat kneejerk reaction.

Flights are more expensive when purchasing in Canada (heard of...

Re: International Experience Canada

Hi all,

I'm in Vancouver! Pretty chilly and rainy here so far - think everyone's waiting for spring/summer to come round!

Immigration couldn't have been easier (apart from a one-hour wait in...

Re: International Experience Canada

ACE does allow unlimited trips back to the UK as well.

You won't get the travel insurance for any flights booked after the policy starts, but at least coming home won't invalidate the policy for...

Re: "What are you doing?!"

Thanks Dotty (and others above!).

It's true that everyone has their own experience - for some people it hasn't worked out, and for some it has, but that has no bearing on what my own experience...

Re: "What are you doing?!"

Cheers!

It's definitely a comfort zone thing for me - I've become used to my comfortable little routine over the past few years, so it's hard to let go. But I know why I decided to do this, and I...

"What are you doing?!"

Hi all,

I move to Canada this weekend! Under the IEC working holiday visa rather than anything more permanent, but still...

While I'm well and truly excited, over the past week the reality of...

Re: International Experience Canada

Yeah, should be nothing to stop you just withdrawing the cash from your account and taking it with you - what better proof of having access to £2,000 than showing them £2,000 in cash right there!...

Re: International Experience Canada

I haven't done it personally but I have friends who have - they say it is actually very simple (and one of them is a true bank-a-phobe!). The one they used (Canadian Forex I think) had someone call...

Re: International Experience Canada

As soon as you get your work permit and step into Canada you can spend your money where you like!

You have options in terms of transferring money to a canadian account - HSBC allow you to operate...

Re: International Experience Canada

Well, £2,000 is what they say you need (plus more if you're on a one-way ticket as you need to show you can buy a return when needed). Some people have gone through the border already and not had to...

Re: International Experience Canada

Good work! I'll have a look into that now - they seem to be pretty good, and they insure for work and wintersports. As long as they let you make trips back home I'm sold!

Re: Pressure Group for Canadians who are British Expats

Then I'm afraid you're deluded.

Could you name any of these MPs who apparently are so unhappy that they've chosen not to propose legislation to amend for it over the course of, well, ever?

Your...

Re: Pressure Group for Canadians who are British Expats

No, it probably isn't fair.

Now, let me ask you - do you think anyone in the UK who matters cares whether this is fair or not for 4% of people who don't live here, given that the country has far...

Re: Pressure Group for Canadians who are British Expats

Surely completely the opposite is true? Too many people have the "hey, Jack, lend us a tenner will you, I can't afford to pay the gas bill" attitude. Including the UK Government. Which is why they'll...

They weren't constantly available for the 10 months though. Last year, the non-student visas went in a matter of weeks after release in December - the student visas stayed open until early summer,...

Re: International Experience Canada

Yeah, it's easy to pop over to the US - if going by air, you just need to apply for an ESTA online in advance (just google ESTA and apply through the official US Gov't website) - it costs $14 (I...
