Since you say you travel often, be aware that when you adjust status, you must not be out of the USA for more than 6 months at a time unless you get authorization. Otherwise your permanent residency...

Nope,
Read the applications for adjustment of status and you'll find a question concerning the J-1 2 year home residency requirement.

212e doesn't go away just because you have another visa....

About to send in N-400 (before fee increase),
based on marriage to US citizen 3 years, I took some University classes but
otherwise haven't worked, no law problems or tickets,
