Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

I'm now in Oz but the Cali is in London until we decide whether we're staying. The child restraints do need to be fitted but can probably be incorporated into the seats. The ADRs for gas are...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Sounds a lot of money for a dial.

Gas system can't be just ripped out and replaced as being a camper it must have a certified cooking & electrical system in place. The best I have is the gas...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Strange. I can't understand why, given these vehicles are likely to spend much of their life driven in continental Europe. This is a new one for VW who have always put the km markings on the inner...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

What I have managed to find out is the gas system will not comply with Australian standards. The stove is not certified and neither are the pipes or the gas bottle. The electrics should be OK as they...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Your speedo should already have km/h in the inner ring. This is adequate for Australian use.

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Derek, if you are out there somewhere. I REALLY need to know of any importer who has dealt with a T5 California. From looking at the Australian gas standards I can't see how the California can get...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

You certainly were lucky. Maybe you could summarise your car import experience here for the benefit of others ? Who you used. What to expect. How much things cost etc. If you have the time it'd be...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Turns out that address is right as the guy (Kevin London) replied on that email. He was quick and to the point so he sounds like a good bet for anyone importing a car to Queensland.

His reply :...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

It may be that since your car exports to the Oz market it has anchor points already installed.

Have I found the right business to contact ? This was all I could find on google.

NEW PRESTIGE...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Thanks for that. The bulletins floating around the Internet may be dated.

Unless the law has changed in the last month ISOFIX child seat anchorages are definitely not legal in Australia. The law...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Looks like the air-con MUST be at least de-gassed before export

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

One of the key issues with compliance appears to be whether the camper has European type approval. If this is the case I am advised that it is likely the only issue would be fitting child restraint...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Shame you're not getting the T5 California on SEVS, though for those of us able to do a personal import it should still be easier that the SEVS route.

Are you a RAW ? I was under the impression...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Cheers for that. Those of us contemplating the personal import of a camper are pretty much up to speed with the personal import regulations on the Federal Government side. They're quite...

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

http://www.karmanshipping.co.uk/auspack.pdf

This information pack states that LHD cars must be 30 yrs or older (except WA where it's 15yrs).

Hope that helps

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Can't help you there. You may have a point about pre-89 vehicles. I did read on one forum that some states will allow a LHD while others won't. If I find more info I will post a link.

The NSW situation will be very similar though possibly more strict than QLD. Please let me know if you find any more information.

Re: VW California Campervan Import - Has anyone done this yet?

Hi, I would be very interested to know who you spoke to as I'm investigating the same thing with a view to bringing a 2007 California with me next year as a personal import. The VW forums have little...
