I have never been to one but I am told from UK colleagues that they do and of course once on British Embassy turf it's like being in the UK so they do have beer etc.... not sure about bacon butties...

That is possibly true..... I have only been here two weeks and I go down King Abdulla Road, round the bottom of the old airport, up Uruba St to my office and with a stop for Starbucks never been more...

Hi Dewsbury_lad, The motel here is 400SAR a night, which is basically a studio / small appartment (bedroom, sofa, chair, bathroom, kitchen) and serviced daily.

Only been here three days so not sure about the scale of the revamp.... The special part of the social room has indeed been closed, I belive for a "hopefully" short time due to what I have been told...

OK that makes sense and clears a few things up.... In my case, part of my contract terms, were that on surviving the first few weeks here, my employer would also sponsor my wife on a business...

Is the medical for the iqarma (spelling) ie residency permit as I'm in KSA on a business Visa and didn't have a medical. I guess you could just go back to the UK every three months for a two week...

Slight off topic..... I hired a car today rather than get taxis everywhere.

Went to four hire places in Olaya.... two would rent me a car with only UK license and two wanted International drivers...

I know what you mean about getting arround..... I bought a road map and all the street names are spelt differently than the actual road signs.... and the locals and taxi drivers know...
