I don't know if this is true but if you get denied don't you have to leave the country in 30 days or something like that?

Correct, I always have the passport(s)/birth certs sitting on my lap. Pull up and say "Hi". In the US, most times they say "Citizenship?" and it's often followed by "ID please".

I agree, I said they do not scan your plates on the way out (of the US). So they don't know you left.

My comment about the not exchanging information was what I got from a Canadian border agent. ...

Unless they ask for your passport and actually do something with it, ie. scan it. They have no way of knowing. They do not (as far as i know) scan your plate on the way out. I know they scan it on...

So when I re-enter the US this weekend and they ask for my status, I guess I need to say "AOS" ?? That sounds like it would confuse the agent :-)
