You can't work while your waiting for your spousal/ common law sponsorship. When your 1 year visa is up, that's it.

can you clarify what kind of PR visa you're going for? I assume you've been in Canada as a visitor or on some kind of work visa?

London seems to be the fastest option for PR...

my two cents worth:

get going with applying for your police check (if you need one) so you're not waiting around an extra couple weeks for it to come back for no reason.

I applied for mine on Jan 10th in 2008 (don't know why I remember the exact date, I just do!) and I think it came back in 5 weeks. That was 2 years ago though so not sure if it would be the same now

I'm not looking at the wrong forms...the second link you have directed me to is for applicants OUTSIDE Canada, I am in Canada, this is an 'in Canada' application.
