Re: BBC iPlayer in Europe

Well all I can say is that I have used them several times a week for some time now without the slightest problem. Hence my recommendation.

I don't know about the particular service you mention but...

Re: Help Me Move To Amsterdam!

Save up enough money so that you can come over here and base yourself for a few weeks. On a tight budget you can probably survive on around 300 euro per week. Be prepared to return (I assume to the...

Re: 50,000 Apply for 300 jobs at Ikea in Jerez

IKEA serves a purpose, as has been outlined earlier.

Some 10 years ago after relocating from the UK to NL I had to completely furnish, including things like cutlery, linens, etc. my new apartment....

Re: how can the house market possibly get out of this lock?

For those who don´t know of him Edward Hugh is a highly respected, Barcelona based economist. He was one of the first to forecast the current turmoil (In Aug 07) and is very pessimistic about the...

Re: how can the house market possibly get out of this lock?

The only properties that are getting 100% mortgages now are those that are actually owned by the banks. Reposessions, bankrupt developers, etc. The banks are now so desperate to shift these off their...

Re: how can the house market possibly get out of this lock?

You have hit the nail on the head Fiona.

The market is pretty well dead at present purely because there is a stand off between vendors and purchasers. The former are asking for more than the...

Re: how can the house market possibly get out of this lock?

Of course there are buyers, always have been, always will. They are simply not prepared to part with the kind of money that is still being asked. The particular problem in the Spanish market at...

Other.... Hong Kong based but invests worldwide (And has the bank balance to go with it).

Re: how can the house market possibly get out of this lock?

Indeed it is a dilemma for vendors. Do they take a loss of, for example, 10% now or one of 25% in a years time when they are really forced to sell?

Serious long term investors.... I do know a...

Re: how can the house market possibly get out of this lock?

Pretty well all the independent forecasts out there indicate that prices will continue to fall for at least another 2- 3 years.

Whilst estimates vary it is generally accepted that there are a...

Re: NL debt traceable once returned to UK

I assume we're talking a few hundred euros here?

Whilst in theory the could chase it in the UK I very much doubt they will. It simply isn't worth it. In your shoes I'd write to them saying that...

Re: Moving to Amsterdam. Will I have enough cash?

You won´t qualify for the 30% ruling as it isn´t a senior enough post. you have to be earning more than that (Around 45k I think) to qualify.

On that salary you´ll be earming 2.33 k per month...

Re: Expat friendly banks?

Fully agree. AAB are streets ahead of the other banks when it comes to expats.

Make sure you opt for their internet banking. It is (mostly) available in English.

Re: Zwolle, is there anyone out there?

Mon and Tue are usually awkward days for me (work). Any chance we could do Wed or Thu?

I have had the 30% ruling for eight years now. Some six years ago I had to sign on for unemployment benefit for a few months. This I got although it wasn´t a huge amount, from memory around 800 euro...

Re: Need to rent in AMS - any areas to avoid?

No, Vondelpark is to the South, adjacent to de Pijp. It is a very nice part of town.

Re: Need to rent in AMS - any areas to avoid?

The only area I would avoid is out to the West of center, in/around Sloterdijk station. Not that I have heard anything about it. It just strikes me as a concrete jungle.

De Pijp is highly...

Re: Need some advise on job offer in Hoofddorp

With the 30% ruling you´ll find the TOTAL income tax you pay similar to UK levels. Generally it is much higher if you are earning your kind of salary.

Top rate of 52% kicks in at 42k euro.

Re: Considering moving to Amsterdam/Spain/France

There is an elemnent of racism here in NL but IMO it is no better or worse than in the UK. I certainly wouldn´t describe it as "highly racist".

There are jobs around. At 3.7% the unemployment rate...

There are jobs around, for example with multinationals, that don´t require you to speak Dutch but preference will usually be given to those that do.

There is one agency I know of that specifically...
