I just go into my local HSBC branch and ask for a cheque in UK pounds from my currrent account (costs about $6 I think) and then post it to the UK to be paid into my bank account.

Apparently one is on a 6 month fire fighting contract in California at the moment.

The other one is still at its base on the Island - we had a look around it a couple of weeks ago.

Mine was just a renewal. Rec'd in Washington April 20. Money taken May 12. I think contacting the consulate was what got it moving though.
