Re: Residency for Briton in Portugal

Indeed, on the face of it he may, in the words of Monty Python, have been a ‘very naughty boy’ I’m not an expert but it may be worth him talking to an expert / accountant who may guide him to the...

Has he / you considered the tax implications of having lived in Portugal for 9 months a year for 22 years?

Re: Dog chip

OK I see. So shouldn’t affect anything as effectively the SIAC registration will be the Portuguese pet log. I’m not up to date on bringing animals over this year but presumably you’ll have more...

Re: Dog chip

The actual registration fee is €2.50 plus whatever the vets fee is. If your dog is scanned in Portugal your Portuguese contacts will show up not your U.K. ones. Sorry don’t know what a Pet Log is....

Re: Dog chip

Your dog will need to be registered on the SIAC database. Any vet can do this and the chip number will be transposed to your Portuguese address. They send you a certificate via email a few days...

Re: IMT Faro

No queues at all Bill because you can’t just turn up now. You need to email IMT for an appointment. Apparently they can take up to 3 weeks to reply. Then you’ve got possibly months to wait for your...

Re: Exchange driving license

You’ll need to go to Faro in person as they need to take your photograph there. Plenty of threads on the documents you need. IMT there is not so busy now as it was. Just be aware that they’ll take...

Re: Altice stadium Lisbon

Thanks Geni, we’re on the balcony, B1, but nothing obvious on the e-ticket to show what entrance. We’ll get there early, I’ll dig out my elbowing skills from the 70’s. Rod Stewart...Hope he does the...

Re: Altice stadium Lisbon

Oh, if only I were 6’5. Sorry, wasn’t clear earlier. They are seats, not standing, it’s just that you don’t get an assigned seat number. I’m fearing that it’ll be like Ryanair of old with a mad...

Altice stadium Lisbon

Anyone been to a concert there? Only tickets left are ‘sem marcação’ ie no assigned seats. How does that work? Is it a free for all meaning you need to get there hours before? Thanks J

Re: 6 month rule for U.K. cars

Yes they do have second hand cars but to be frank they’re mostly only 2 or 3 years old so probably not the best place to find a runaround.
Most car insurance comes with some roadside assistance but...

Re: 6 month rule for U.K. cars

Some Hyundais, especially petrol SUVs seem competitive compared to U.K. prices. A well specced Tucson is currently advertised at €25,700. The equivalent in the U.K. seems to be between £26k and £28k....

Re: 6 month rule for U.K. cars

If you do your homework, strange as it may be, some cars are cheaper here than in the U.K. Some Korean cars for example.

Re: Low use mobile?

If you go to the Vodafone shop at departures, ie after you’ve passed through, at Faro airport
you can get a SIM for €15 for 2 weeks coverage. Make sure your phone is unlocked though.

Re: Electricity costs

Got an email from EDP 2 days back. Our kWH rate has gone down about 50c for next year. Not much but better than going up again. Standing charge is about the same.
