Re: Boston or Chicago - which would you choose?

In my experience, Boston is far more provincial. Outward looking? This is the city where half the intersections don't have street signs, because if you belonged in that neighborhood you'd have...

Re: Tips (wanted) for going to an American Football game (49ers vs Jaguars)

Glad you had fun! Your tight end, Davis, scored a much-needed touchdown for my fantasy team.

Hopefully you get more chances to see games in person. I'm going to see the Packers@Bears next week. ...

Re: 3 Questions from someone in Aus.

If you are being recruited by someone who claims they can get you a bartending job that pays $2,000/week, it is 100% a scam/trick/something other than bartending.

Yes, it is probably possible for...

Re: Tips (wanted) for going to an American Football game (49ers vs Jaguars)

I'm an American and a huge football fan.

1. If you want to party, get there very early for tailgating. Bring a grill or at least prepared food. Tailgaters are friendly, I always get fed in the...

Re: The "World" Series...

we are afraid of the whole world outside our borders and so we convince ourselves that the foreign lands do not matter. to accomplish this we come up with a meaning of 'world champion' that lets us...

Re: The "World" Series...

Where did I assume American teams are the best? The best team could be in Canada. Or the best team could comprise a majority of foreigners. How is that an 'American' team? Because they pay taxes...

Re: The "World" Series...

Yes, that is a different and also valid meaning of 'world champion'. The US is NOT the world champion in that sense! Quite right! The nation of the US is NOT the world champion, but the Yankees...

Re: The "World" Series...

You are being 100% nationalistic. That is not a pejorative. You are completely proving my point. By 'world champion' and its synonyms, you mean a competition of nations. Just because that is your...

Re: The "World" Series...

Agreed. The endless fascination/annoyance that Brits have with American sports terminology is truly a delight. I picture some grouchy old crank complaining that the Nippon Ham Fighters could have...

Re: Alcohol in the US

Sounds like some of you should start drinking and cycling. It makes the "few miles" completely irrelevant.

That's how I do it.

Re: Places to eat in the Orlando area. Real american!!

Neither of those are true.

In America you can get authentic and inauthentic versions of both. It's not surprising that an arbitrarily chosen chinese takeout place near Disney World is...

Re: Places to eat in the Orlando area. Real american!!

Orlando has no reputation for good food.

Look at this foodie forum thread for some options: http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=17235

Re: Chicago hotel/restaurant recommendations?

Haha, yeah. Sometimes outsiders find Italian beef unappetizing and messy. My wife was very anti-Italian beef until I told her to try it "dry" instead of "dipped." Now she likes it. I get it dipped...

I love chicago style hot dogs. Chicago is one of my favorite places on earth for cheap treats. Also good: polish sausage, italian beef, breaded steak sandwich.

But there's nothing...

Re: Chicago hotel/restaurant recommendations?

I think Blackbird is the best restaurant mentioned thus far.

If you are here June 12-14 I highly recommend going to the free blues festival in Grant Park. It's one of the best concert experiences...

Re: Where to live in Chicago...is Naperville as good as everybody says?!

Chicago is a great place!

Naperville and Aurora are not in Chicago. They are cities outside Chicago. They are in "Chicagoland", though. :)

I live in Chicago but can't help you much with the...
