Re: Living costs Ireland versus UK

It's all helpful, so thanks. It is a case of sorting through the information and advice and honing it to suit ones own specific circumstances. Your situation, Brucy, seems to be most analogous to my...

Re: Living costs Ireland versus UK

I suppose the exam question is; would I be comfortable with 2,300 per month, no mortgage/rent, one car, 2 bed cottage in semi-rural location and the usual expectations of an average family - one...

Re: Living costs Ireland versus UK

Hi Anabel.

I asked a similar question, but answers tend to be somewhat varied. Like you I want to move to Ireland (semi-rural) and was hoping to get by on about 2,300e per month after tax (wife,...

Re: How realistic am I?

I have a couple of rental properties in the UK, plus I'd use the proceeds from the sale of my UK home to fund the UK100k for a house in Ireland, and then buy a couple more rentals with the remainder.

Re: How realistic am I?

Thanks. What do you think of the 2,300 per month? Do-able, or more like the 3k Sean suggested?

Re: How realistic am I?

Hi Sean,

Thanks for your response - Just to clarify; I did include health insurance in my estimates (100 per month). Also, petrol is low as we would only be trundling to the shops/school and back....

How realistic am I?

I was hoping for some guidance re a possible move to Ireland. We've just moved back to the UK from Oz after 15 years. We were going to give France a go, but got put off by the bureaucracy....

Re: Traffic Wardens.

Not that I was aware. There were other people acting in the same manner, but this warden decided to stick her nose in and moved me on.

I think perhaps some of the other people involved were...

Traffic Wardens.

Do they still have Stalin-like traffic wardens in the UK. You know, the ones that let a few pips on their shoulder go to their heads?

I had a run in with one such warden just recently. She took a...

Re: Visa for my little Aussie

Gosh, where do I start.....

I guess I’m a bit toward the edge of the Bell Curve, but you sound like you’re right in the middle. Do you get invited to dinner parties much?

At last,...

Re: Visa for my little Aussie

Well you look look a Ranga. Anyway, the point is that I was trying to be funny and the comment really was not intended to stand up to literal scrutiny.

Going back to your defense of JAJ, I looked...

Re: Visa for my little Aussie

I'm being sardonic, which is kind of humour. But it needs a bit of intellect to pick it out. Oops, there I go again!

Re: Visa for my little Aussie

PS to Northernbird - I notice you quote from Dr. Seuss, I also have one: "I do not like red headed nosy northern wallies, I do not like them Sam I am!", or something like that.

Re: Visa for my little Aussie

I'd say no more odd than someone who has all those stars and feels the need to spend their time interjecting with comments on discourses that have nothing to do with them.

Re: Visa for my little Aussie

What a ridiculous thing to say; "take a long hard look in the mirror at my posting style" Do you seriously think that I should sit down and contemplate my comments in depth and think about how I can...

Re: Visa for my little Aussie

If you went to the shops to buy tea bags and the checkout chick tried to embarrass you in front of everyone because you were in the wrong queue, but served you anyhow, you'd still have your teabags...

Re: Visa for my little Aussie

Thanks for your advice, but you still sound a bit of a dill; re the above comment. It must be obvious that my posts placement here, if it's not supposed to be, was a mistake and pointing it out to me...

Visa for my little Aussie

Hi all. Hope someone might be able to help, since the British High Commission charge $1.50 per min for the privilege of talking to them.

I'm a British national and my wife is Irish, but my 3-year...

My understanding is that you will be taxed according to where you spend the majority of the financial year and you will be taxed at the appropriate marginal rate of whichever country you spend the...

Superannuation - Can they come after me?

I'm moving back to the UK from Oz and have self-managed Super, so I have access to the funds. If I break the rules and transfer them back to the UK and use those funds for my own purposes, do you...

How much is enough?

Hi all.

I'd be grateful to any one who can help. What actually does it cost to live in France? We are looking to move from Australia in 12 months. I've been in Oz about 15 years and for a...
