Re: British born with long expired passport - Holding dual South African citizenship

Very informative Mary - thank you. Seems the company stuff will be Ok then. Hennie lives at the workshop, in a flatlet, and no one need know that I don't - that will just complicate things. I do...

Re: British born with long expired passport - Holding dual South African citizenship

Hi Mary.

Thanks for the tip about the SA documents. Would not have thought of that. Would the business bank account + proof of directorship suffice (my OH and I being the only directors)? I...

Re: British born with long expired passport - Holding dual South African citizenship

Hi Scot47. Took a look at BritInParis' link; so have put that on list of things to do when I arrive.

I was a baby when we emigrated, so in the eyes of the taxman I was just a NADA :p.

Re: Care Worker Jobs - Good idea or not?

100% agreed Editha. It does not seem safe to leave a person with dementia in the care of one person. There are just too many con-men and very strange people out there and a person with dementia is...

Re: Care Worker Jobs - Good idea or not?

Hennie and I were just discussing the food issue Editha. To be safe, I would factor that in as an expense. Also with tax - not being sure if tax is payable on full income and reclaimed at year end...

Re: Care Worker Jobs - Good idea or not?

Thanks Editha you are a minefield of financial info.

Am I right that tax is 20%(?). To be safe, I would factor that in on total income and ignore the £10,500 platform for now.

Could you tell...

Re: Care Worker Jobs - Good idea or not?

Hi Pica. Nope, no qualifications at all. The difficulty is that the agencies that I have looked at need to interview you in person. Which, due to the nature of the work, makes perfect sense but...

Re: Care Worker Jobs - Good idea or not?

Hi Shirtback. Thanks for the reply. Yep, the lack of personal experience with UK life is an issue. Don't worry, I am not using a whole one month holiday to make any decisions regarding a move :D

Re: British born with long expired passport - Holding dual South African citizenship

I hadn't thought of that FeelBritish. Something to bear in mind if I purchase a one way ticket. SA may assume that I am doing a runner and prevent me from returning.

I just remembered that when...
