For the SB-1 visa you should file at least 3 months in advance before travel.
Regarding the hearing; It depends on which state. In a pretty recent case in Michigan it took 1 year and 11 months until...

What if I filed a I-90 or something and used that along with my green card at the airport trying to convince BA to let me board.

Using ESTA would be dishonest I guess. But the airlines will not let you board on a expired card, never! Unless you are god or something.
Only way would be to use...

I'd have to fill out the I-94 for the green card on the plane, but again I would have filled out the ESTA. It's pretty confusing. :P

I've read that in emergency you can use a visitors visa even though you have a green card. Besides I doubt they'd let me board with a expired green card? Even if I tell them I'm going to have a...

Well I believe using a visitors visa to get back into the country while having a expired green card does not remove your status.

They effectively did so, but I have heard that I will still be able to have a hearing before a Immigration Judge. I haven't been back in the states in a while, but my wish to go back is strong.
