Yes, you can claim points for French. You just need to ask the university to provide an official letter for you.

Unfortunately the university will not be able to issue this letter as you have not studied the language as your major. All the best.

My waiting time is maybe one of the worst - application for 137(now 176) visa lodged 1st August 2007, CO made first contact with me and requested medicals and police clearances on 23 October 2008....
