bilateral agreements are now only between the UK and non EU countries. EU/UK is based on EU regulations now

will depend on whether you become resident or not. if you stay under the radar and don't become resident (not that i recommend this) then you will not need to do anything and your EHIC will come from...

we bought our house for cash last September (non residents). at no stage were we asked for proof of income or even any questions about our income at all. has something changed this year?

maybe you are thinking of ATM;'s where there is a daily limit of 200E per withdrawal and 400E per day (or at least, that is my daily limit with BES - don't know if it is different for other banks)....

yes it is BES. exchange rate is the lowest figure of the spread for the day the transfer takes place

you can do it by bank transfer but i'm not sure if you could do it with cash. if transfer, they charge £15 per 1000 up to 15K then an extra £ for each 1000 up to 30,000 when the fee then stays at £30...

i may be wrong on this and i stand to be corrected but as far as i am aware as a PT resident, you only get a UK EHIC if your are over pension age. those under pension age may get up to 2.5 years...

as far as i am aware, if you are covered by the PT health service you would be entitled to a PT EHIC which would cover you from treatment in the UK (or other EU countries)

i think that it needs to made clear exactly what we are talking about here. if you are resident in the EU then the whole discussion is irrelevant as the EHIC card (which all EU citizens should obtain...

why should they? it's up to you to be legal and if you claim, a quick check via a computer will tell them if you are road legal. if not, your claim goes up the swanny and for that i would not blame...

i suspect the all have - BES and Santander certainly have. the BES branch is more like an office than a bank.
