Re: Buying in Bulgaria

There are very very few villages that are all or majority gypsy. Unless looking to move into a ghetto on edge of one of larger towns and very much doubt those places come up for sale :)

Can't say...

Re: Buying in Bulgaria

Would agree with the water issue, BUT it is very "estate agent" speak to say nota gypsy village. Gypsies are an integral part of Bulgarian life and culture. Nearly all villages have some gypsy...

Re: Looking To Make The Move- Suggestions?

Often parking spaces cost extra and are not just free because they are part of your complex. And special permits needed.

Re: Looking To Make The Move- Suggestions?

As someone just going about their daily life in Bulgaria you will never really come into contact with "Mafia" or much corruption. Much is still done on a local level and a bottle of whiskey to the...

Re: Sofia, Bulgaria info

As with any city there are nice parts and horrible parts. Sofia has some lovely places, but also so not so nice areas. The outskirts are fantastic though with Vitosha mountain and near by mineral spa...

Re: Buying To Let in Europe

We have our house for sale in Austria and were recently told it would rent out for around 600 Euros/month long term or around 1000 E a week short term holiday lets. Where you would be taxed would...

Re: Buying a used vehicle in Austria

I think it will depend on what is needed in Hungary to register the car. The other year we were looking to sell our car in Austria and had a lot of enquiries from other countries and all people...

Re: Buying in Bulgaria

I have lived in Bulgaria for close to 10 years now, on and off and it has and is going through many changes. Property is still relatively cheap. You can get old, run down houses for complete...

Re: Looking To Make The Move- Suggestions?

Having lived and worked in France and run a French business there would not advice it for tax. It is very expensive. Lot of upfront fees. We now have a house in Austria (for sale) and have many Dutch...

Re: back and in search of warmer climates

What was the issue with Bulgaria?
I have always found the health service there very good (private but very cheap and good) and they use a lot of herbal treatments for some things. Also have the...

Re: Thinking of relocating to Veliko Tarnovo/varna

Two completely different places so you really need to decide what you are wanting - touristy, beach side city or more rural place. Fair amount of expats around both areas. Lots live in villages...

Re: Bulgaria

I live here, what do you want to know?
I would just say take your time, look around lots of different areas, maybe rent for a while and see if you genuinely like it and want to live here.

Re: Advice about moving to bulgaria

Couldn't agree more Noelle. Everyone always says they want to live VT way - probably because it is where most of the expats live. Personally I don't like VT and it has far worse weather on that side...

Re: Low rent property ?

Some good ideas here. We have had people from helpx and workawayers in the past. There is also wwoof if you are into organic farming. Many places would prefer to have the same volunteers for a few...

Re: Cheap country to wind away a year in.

Depends what your idea of cheap is I guess but rent aside, you will likely need around 200 to 300 Euros a month to live well in Bulgaria. Food is good and cheap. Fruit and veg next to nothing and the...

Re: Low rent property ?

You would struggle to get anything even here in Bulgaria for that amount - I used to do long term lets for around 100 to 150 Euros a month in fully renovated houses. I did have a cheaper one I let...

Re: Total life change wanted

Its a good idea to live here for a few months to see if you like it but having lived here for 5 years I can say that I have never had any 'mafia' problems. There is definitely corruption in the legal...

Re: Advice about moving to bulgaria

Post in the classifieds NOT here. And given market in Bulgaria at the moment such a plot would have to be very cheap!

Re: Thinking where to go .... anywhere but UK!

To give an idea of living costs in Bulgaria, you'd easily live off around 400 Euros a month as a single person, we are a couple with 3 dogs and live off around 500 to 600 Euros a month. Main expenses...

Re: Budding Farmers

Bulgaria has Lidls, Aldi, Metro, Billa, Ikea......McDonalds, KFC, Subway....

The sheep in Bulgaria are kept mainly for milking. Lamb is only really eaten on special occasions and so is expensive.
