If it makes you feel less vulnerable I arrived 4 weeks ago without a job (same area of IT as you) and I'm not panicking yet ;)

No Claims is of no help with renting here - they just want to know you've got some money ;)

Also, my wife and I insured our new car here with NRMA and were given full no claims bonus straight away...

We used Tranzfers to transfer £12,000 and the money was in Oz the next day. Also very cheap and much better than the banks (who took over a week) - Very impressed with Tranzfers and will continue to...

We arrived last month in Brisbane with no place arranged to stay. We just got a list of serviced apartments from the Tourist Information Centre in Queen Street Mall and drove around to them.

One thing I won't miss about the UK is every 2nd car being "Milennium Silver" - quite possibly THE hardest colour to spot on a grey and rainy...

You can crack the region protection on most DVD players - did mine in 30 seconds. Look up your DVD player in Google with "region" and "crack".

If you cant do it, just buy a multi-region player in...
