The Virus in Norway
 

My son lives in Norway and works at a recycling plant outside Oslo. He says the empty liquor-bottles are coming in from private homes at a much higher rate than formerly! Luckily for him he can escape at weekends to his sixty-acres tree "ranch" a few hours away up in the mountains.

I think sales from Off-licences in Scotland have increased dramatically. I still campaign - in vain - for Scandinavian-style controls on liquor in Scotland !

Here's the latest on Norway's restrictions. Talking to my son today... He said restrictions are not onerous compared with Britain and other European countries. However, they are onerous enough to lead to mild depression in the City, so he and his girlfriend have moved out to a house he owns out in the countryside. Just in two days, their depression lifted. (The place was rented out, so the tenant is still on the premises, which isn't a problem, apparently!)

He was due to visit me here with his kids at Easter, but he missed out by a few days. Then it was to be some time during the school holidays, and now it's this Xmas. If we're lucky!

The air-bridge seems to come and go. My son is working in England now, and couldn't go back to Norway for quite some time. But a week or two ago, the bridge was opened again and he spent a happy week visiting his family in various places, and then returning to England without any problem.

Update... Just yesterday he went back to Norway again, with no questions. He's taking a bit of a chance, I think, but he's confident that he'll be able to return to England with no problems. This information might be welcomed by anyone else looking to ferry back and forth between the two countries.

Well, he got back to Norway, and had to self-isolate for two or three days, then take a test. He waited three days for the result, so couldn't see his girls during that time. Sigh...!

The latest news is that my son flew over to Norway last week and was allowed to drive to see his children in two separate towns and to visit his own two properties - four stopovers in all. All strictly legal, and authorised every step of the way by the Norwegian authorities. Back in England he had to self-isolate in his caravan for three days. Plenty of tests along the way, of course, but it's nice that England and Norway are on visiting terms.
