Default Help needed with understanding resident permit in Norway

I am currently working for a UK company in Norway. However, in the near future, I intend to make the 'big move' and start living and workiing in Norway with a norwegian company. I already have a D-number from working with the UK company in Norway. I will soon have a new Job with a norwegian company. My question is: Before I go to the Police department to apply for a resident permit, do I first need a residence (home address)? Or can I just give them a contact address like my new norwegian work address?

Basically, what order should I do things and what information will I need to provide to apply for a 'resident permit'?

Oh gosh, I can't even remember. I was living in Norway when I went in to register, as a UK citizen its a lot easier to get a resident permit. If I were you I'd check the Norwegian Embassy Site, they have a lot of FAQ's on this stuff.
