Hello All,
I hope I can really get some help. I am looking to move to Sweden which I wish I did before Brexit passed. I am 28 yo and never moved before so this is a big step for me. I was hoping Guernsey was exempt from Brexit however it wasn't to be.
I am trying to find a step-by-step process for what I need to do from start to arriving in Sweden. It seems very confusing now with not being part of the EU.
I have spoken to Swedish Migration whom have said I need to apply for a residence permit (I could only find Residence Status) and a work permit, but then told that your new employer will start an application for this. Please can someone confirm this is true?
I am currently learning Swedish to improve my chances of finding a job. In regards to jobs, I presume I will have to do a video call interview when applying? Is there many jobs for British expats? I am hoping for a move away from the cities for something more remote.
Is there any restrictions on buying or renting property if none local?
Do you need permits before arriving in Sweden or could I arrive on Visa and then apply for work and Residence permits?
Do drivers licenses need to be changed on arrival also?
I appreciate any and all information I can receive.
Thank you in advance

Although not in Sweden I can say that you need a get a Visa

You should note that the rule in the EU is that jobs should be offered to EU nationals first and you will need a job lined up to move

My sweet child of brexit, welcome to the brexit jungle.
Hove you researched cost of living?

You only need visa for say longer then 90 days.

Channel Islanders didn’t possess EU freedom of movement rights prior to Brexit unless they had a connection to the UK so you potentially were never able to Sweden without a visa.
Do you have a connection to Sweden beyond a desire to move there? A Swedish family member or partner for instance?

EU.flag - Tell me about it! yes I have researched cost of living and compared to Guernsey quite even if not slightly cheaper.
BritInParis - Connections not really, I currently have a cousin living over there and has been for the last two years via a Swedish Partner. Presumably this doesn't help.

What would happen if I cannot apply for a permit before September 2021? would this mean I would then not be able to move to Sweden at all after this month?

You can continue to move to any EU country at any time - you just need to meet the visa conditions in order to do so. This usually means a paid job, a partner, or a study visa. Although now more expensive as an international student and therefore not qualifying for domestic fees (although probably not too much more compared to UK tuition fees), would studying a Bachelors or Masters in Sweden be an option for you?
