Hi,

I have one Norwegian parent and one English parent. I was born and raised in England and got my British citizenship automatically through my English parent. I believe I also gained Norwegian citizenship automatically through my Norwegian parent at birth, but have never applied for a passport or anything similar.

From what I gather, I will have to apply to keep my Norwegian citizenship:

I have the 6 months time spent there (but not 2 years living there) to fulfill the requirements, but does anyone know whether I would have to give up my British citizenship to keep my Norwegian citizenship.

This checklist includes a point for confirming I have no other citizenship:

But this page says you can have dual citizenship if 'you received one citizenship from each of your parents when you were born':

Does anyone have experience with applying to retain Norwegian citizenship in this way, and if so did they need to renounce their previous citizenship?

Hey,

I think it will be much the best to contact the Norwegian embassy about this. That's the kind of stuff they deal with all the time.

The OP is six months old but for what it's worth my understand of Norwegian nationality law is that the OP can retain both his/her British and Norwegian citizenship.
