Applying to keep Norwegian Citizenship
Hi,
I have one Norwegian parent and one English parent. I was born and raised in England and got my British citizenship automatically through my English parent. I believe I also gained Norwegian citizenship automatically through my Norwegian parent at birth, but have never applied for a passport or anything similar. From what I gather, I will have to apply to keep my Norwegian citizenship: https://www.udi.no/en/word-definitio...ship/#link-674 I have the 6 months time spent there (but not 2 years living there) to fulfill the requirements, but does anyone know whether I would have to give up my British citizenship to keep my Norwegian citizenship. This checklist includes a point for confirming I have no other citizenship: https://www.udi.no/en/checklists-con...zenship/?c=gbr But this page says you can have dual citizenship if 'you received one citizenship from each of your parents when you were born': https://www.udi.no/en/word-definitio...l-citizenship/ Does anyone have experience with applying to retain Norwegian citizenship in this way, and if so did they need to renounce their previous citizenship? Thanks for the help |
Re: Applying to keep Norwegian Citizenship
Hey,
I think it will be much the best to contact the Norwegian embassy about this. That's the kind of stuff they deal with all the time. |

The OP is six months old but for what it's worth my understand of Norwegian nationality law is that the OP can retain both his/her British and Norwegian citizenship.
