Default Citizenship Swedish vs British

So I've lived in Sweden for nearly 5 years, studied, worked, payed taxes, integrated etc etc and now comes an interesting question.

I can become a Swedish Citizen!

Yay! Go Me...

I think..

Seriously, what are the pros and cons of obtaining Swedish Citizenship over British, does becoming Swedish mean I have to surrender my British Citizenship?

What about pensions, I had a small pension for about 4 years in England and I apparenly have a pension of sorts here in Sweden also (should look into this I suppose lol), can I claim a foreign pension?

You do NOT have to surrender your British Citizenship, in fact it is quite a difficult thing to do.

I guess the british citizenship is 'more worth' (with the commonwealth and everything) since you can apply for some visas that people from other nations can't.

Careful you don't get called up for national service!

The only real advantage is you have the rights of a Swedish Citizen, within Sweden.

Quite how that differs from being a EU passport holder, I don't know.

Well, you'll get to vote in Swedish national elections and your children will be Swedish if born outside Sweden. Beyond that there's probably few practical advantages compared to residing in Sweden on an EU passport.

Both Sweden and the UK tolerate dual citizenship by the way so there's no need to give up your British citizenship.

Sweden has allowed dual citizenship since July 2001, so you don't have to surrender anything. Normally it's better to become a citizen rather than remain a foreigner with a resident permit, however most of those eligible don't take up the opportunity. There's more discussion at:
