So, in my short-term assignment, I'm told that I need to leave SA every 30 days.

Where to go?

I know I can make a long weekend in Dubai. I'm sure I can as well do a long weekend in Istanbul.

Possibly even in Athens or Rome.

What about Cyprus? Anywhere else you would recommend? Ease of flight details counts, yes?

Assume you have one of the 'magic' passports ( visa on arrival)? Maybe try Muscat?

They tell me they call it "Work Visit Visa". Hope that is correct.

Once I get there, do they give me the Expat Iqama?

Exactly, none. Both Dubai and Muscat are raging hot. Try going west to Africa.

I should think short haul direct flights would be preferable, and using your airline/alliance of choice to collect if that's an option/important to you. Take a look at anywhere that takes your fancy.

Your visa will not lead to an Iqama. they have conned you into coming on a Business Visa.

Delhi is a 4 hour flight, as is Mumbai - and Goa is just down the road from Mumbai (nice beaches?).

Still leaning to Istanbul.
