More likely to just switch on a few of the dozens of reactors they are building and take what they need from the sea. And keep the population smoking heavily so the numbers go down.

All very true. But, Beijing has a water shortage problem, as well as an overall water quality problem.

I'm not really sure countries will really invade others to "get" water - the Nile, India/Pakistan are special cases as their water supplies are shared- water treaties are out of date or ignored and one country can effectively cut the other off.

Most interesting is the Blue Nile Dam project. Ethopia will screw Egypt big time, yet there is no border between them. The Egyptians will need to go through Sudan first. (and the Sudanese are less affected by the dam).

Uncle Sam under Obama is focusing on East Asia, and is not giving in to China as seen with the Chinese ADIZ. The US also very recently said they will defend Japan.

I forsee South East Asian , like Vietnam, Philippines and others leaning towards the US for weapons and diplomatic support to thwart Chinese dominance.

China is a disaster too. Beijing is struggling but that would be a civil war and a breakdown of the regime.
read some interesting bits a while ago. Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Israel and Lebanon all have an axe to grind re water.
Cos they are short of reasons to hate each other

Tom Clancy or someone similar wrote a good book years ago in which the Chinese and Indians carved up the pacific and siberia between them, seem to remember Australia was deemed quite attractive in terms of land mass and low population as was siberia.

Australia was also the 'prize' Lex Luther (Gene Hackman) asked for in one of the early Superman movies...........

Thing with Israel is that they are very limited fresh water resources, and Turkey was 1 country that was going to supply them with it but then the Mavi Marmara happened.

I was told recently that China has 5 years of usable water left that's why garment production is being moved to the likes of the Philippines, Vietnam etc. it's all very well talking about showering for shorter length of time but really that doesn't even touch the sides, the garment industry is one if the highest consumers of water and whilst we live in a disposable high demand retail market there won't be any change. H&m have started a responsible green range that doesn't pollute the water systems or use so much as the current methods but long term it will be a problem. We need to stop being so disposable and start using what we have responsibly, buy clothes that are made well and last longer, recycle more clothing, the over population of this planet is starting to rear it's ugly head and we all need to start thinking about every aspect if our lifestyles and what has to change. To keep expecting growth in economies that rely on high street spending us one of the biggest problems, we all need to embrace simpler lifestyles for it to be sustainable.
