Are you off when you're off?

Re: Are you off when you're off?
A part of me is dreading my Christmas week off, purely for the fact that I'm absolutely sure there will be some sort of (non-) crisis at work and I'll be called in to sort it out. I can already feel the anxiety setting in in anticipation...
They can bugger off on Christmas Day though, especially after breakfast when the champagne cork will have popped!

There could be "irregularities" found. I assume you are not one of these corrupt types just a common or garden control freak

Re: Are you off when you're off?
I've got shit to do when I'm home and off, I'll have my laptop and emails on my phone. I won't reply to everything but when 'important' stuff needs to be done, it generally has a direct and positive impact on my pocket...which kind of makes it worthwhile I reckon.
It used to kill me when my Mum would take calls on a Sunday when she was meant to be watching me play footie. Missed a goal once...and I didn't score many

I set an expectation that I will be off / away starting about 3 weeks out and step up delegating work out from that point on. When I am off I'll scan emails every other day or so and only read those that I am in the "To" line and seem important.
I'll only get involved if some-one contacts me for support or if I can see a preventable disaster looming that can be killed by a quick call....
For urgent matters we have a general undertanding that if it's out of office time or you're on leave send an SMS and people call in at their convenience.

No ****ing chance. Our sales people don't understand the meaning of the word 'holiday'. I'm expecting the escalations will start around 1:30pm on Christmas day (out of spite).

We are a sales driven company which I fully understand, I've been here long enough to know how it works. It still annoys me how sales clear off for a few weeks around Eid then when us infidels take official vacation (at Christmas) we are still expected to jump through hoops.
Christmas falling at end of year doesn't help either, ideally Christmas would be moved to July or August.

Sales folk **** off when needed and swan around causing a nuisance when you want some peace.
A bit like women.

I am a workaholic and never go off. Always have BB and always take calls as nothing ever moves unless I push hard. This is why they pay me big bucks and if I wasn't doing like that, there would have been much less progress on the stuff I was hired to fix and I'd be w/o job.

Re: Are you off when you're off?
We are a two-man team. My boss is off for 4 weeks starting tomorrow. I am taking Xmas Day off (so the office will be manned by a secretary only) and of course we all should get New Years Day off. For me, that's it. I will answer mobile phone queries only from my speed-dial contacts and never after 9pm.
