Default Working hours during Ramadan...

Anybody knows what the official working hours for Ramadan is? Or does it differ per company? Is it true that your business license may be revoked if you are caught working past a specific hour?

It varies from company to company. My company is officially government owned and it stipulates that only Muslim staff may have reduced hours during Ramadan. Their hours are 7:30am to 13:30pm or 9:00am to 15:00pm. The rest of us poor souls have to work normal hours.

Other companies give all their employees, regardless of religion, reduced hours.

Thanks for the quick reply Emerald Eyes!

In our company they didn't reduce our working hours. They just changed the timings to 10am to 6pm.

Two private companies I am associated with have different hours:

One is 0830 to 1600 hrs (1600 hrs instead of 1730 hrs for Ramadan)

the other is 0830 to 1730 hrs (no change).

Lucky cow lol.

I'm thinking about doing one of the traditional iftar tent dinners this year - I skipped it last year and I think it could be fun.

You can find out about stuff to do during Ramadan here: http://www.timeoutdubai.com/ramadan

From some of the replies here it seems hours unchanged for many including my wife who works for a govt owned company. Moslems only getting reduced hours there, after they issued reduced Ramadan hours earlier for all!.

I assumed mine will be 9-2 but maybe in for a surprise??

last year the government made it clear that reduced hours had to apply to all, not just moslems. has it changed this year?

As far as I am aware, article 65 of the labour law says a two hour reduction across the board, regardless of religion

I stayed an extra hour or so after the Egytians had buggered off. Nice quiet office and quiet roads on the way home.

Article 65? Do you have an online copy? This is the only one I found http://www.zu.ac.ae/library/html/UAE...ELabourLaw.pdf

Agreed - when I was at Dubai Holding, the reduced hours applied to everyone. This is because the non-Muslims also have to fast, so why should they work longer hours?
