Re: Wimbledoom
You think we needed this to remember the Dunblane children? I've never forgotten - I used to write a daily Market Commentary jobby for my bank's clients, but the day after Dunblane I simply wrote:
'For the first time in my life, I find myself hoping - praying - that there is a God. Those dear little children will need someone to comfort them. No further comment today. Normal service resumed tomorrow.'
I was swamped with goodwill messages - and threatened with the sack. Strange days.
Murray survived it (or at least avoided it) of course............ how history might have been different - and we would never have known.

Its hard to explain but I still get a sad feeling in my stomach every time I drive past or through Dunblane. For me ill never forget that day. There was a thread about this a few years ago and I remember saying then, that I would never forget that day. I was sat in our office at Rosyth Naval yard and one of our bosses took a phone call (nobody had mobiles in those days) and screamed and sprinted out of the office. His daughter was at the school, but was not one of the ones killed. Then to watch it unfold. I drove past Dunblane nearly every single day at that time and just wanted to cry. Even 17 years later, it still makes me mad and sad. Evil bastard.

Many details about that day are still under the official secrets act. An awful day made more so by concealing the truth

Re: Wimbledoom
Hamilton personally knew....... trying to remember the name..... was it George Robertson - Scottish MP/Cabinet Minister who went on to be Secretary-General of NATO or something........ I remember Robertson admitting Hamilton made a comment to him like 'I'm going back to my guns' or something - the whole thing got swept under the carpet when Robertson was 'in the frame' for the NATO job (or whatever it was).
