Gulf News, quoting DNRD: Dubai "a preferred destination for residency and jobs". 294'000 visas issued during January 09 while cancelling only 119'000 for various reasons during the same period of time.

7 Days, quoting, erm, DNRD: Dubai cancelled 86% more residency visas in January this year than in January 2008. 54'684 residency visas cancelled last month compared to 29'418 in January 2008.

So I guess the tourist trade is booming then.
