Default Whiskey

As some of you are miserable old men on here I'm guessing some of you know a good whisky/whiskey when you see one. Can anyone recommend one for me. Is Dalmore nice as i like the bottle... and what age is good without being a million quid? would a 12 year Dalmore be ok?

thanks guys

Springbank (for me) is the best, however it's not cheap. Balvennie is very good, esp the single cask (all the bottles are hand numbered), I also rather like Taliser but it's a bit of an acquired taste. As for Dalmore? I have no idea.

Go for Balvennie, Single cask or doublewood, it's sublime.

Does it actually matter? After all, the only thing worth doing with Whiskey is to mix it with coke.

A nice 12 or 18 year old Jameson single malt. Somewhere around not sure of the price but the 18 year old is probably less than 70 euro. Easily available in all duty frees so will probably be cheaper than I mention.
Really smooth whisky and of course its Irish:sunglasses:

Ignore millhouse he is more of a WKD or Smirnoff Ice drinker

Seconded....Balvenie Doublewood is a 5 star malt. Around $55 at duty free and worth the cost.

Buying a whiskey for someone is very difficult and potentially a minefield as the tastes are so different

A safe bet would be Macallan. Always a very reasonable price whether duty free or on line and is a delicate malt appreciated by most people.

Alternatively buy a decent blend. Johnnie walker green label is both nice and reasonably priced. Blue label better but not really enough to justify the price difference for an every day blend

Talisker is only recommended for people who are really fond of campfires - it is like drinking a liquified partially burnt log. I was given a bottle of 18 year old by a friend a few years ago and I had one drink before I gave it away. It is foul beyond belief!

Balvenie however is sublime stuff..

Which is why I said it's an acquired taste - wish you'd thrown that bottle in my direction.

Balvenie is the BE decision kitty...

Much as I would like to argue, you are absolutely correct.
A very dignified drink indeed!
