Same for me, maybe even less. Why anyone would leave Dubai during Ramadan is beyond me.
But my company are now saying "Christians" have to work the full hours, and we can take the time off in lieu during Ramadan. (that wont happen) I am sure this illegal |

0930-1400, 2 hours less than normal. So you normally work 0930-1600 or something? I'd kill a child for those hours normally. |
Re: Where are y'all going for Ramadan?
My Ramadan hours are 9-3 (normal hours are 9-5). I can still eat and drink at my desk as I have my own private office.
Can't wait either! Like Millhouse I'd never leave Dubai during Ramadan. Roads are quieter, people are more relaxed and it's a generally nice time to be in this town. |
Re: Where are y'all going for Ramadan?
Unfortunately I work for a boss who comes in for fun at the weekends to do work on a Friday. Not unheard of for him to be in overnight as well.
It's tragic. |
Re: Where are y'all going for Ramadan?
Hello All,
This will be my first Ramadan in the GCC. I agree with most that, even for a non observer, it may be a a nice time to be working here. Reduced hours and lighter workload, generally. And I too can eat and drink in my office so there's not much harm.So I won't be looking to take any holiday. But I hope to do a couple of weekend breaks, as my only other real option is to stay at home all day Friday and Saturday. I am thinking of Mumbai/Delhi and Istanbul. Maybe an overnight in Dubai given that there's booze available. |

But my company are now saying "Christians" have to work the full hours, and we can take the time off in lieu during Ramadan. (that wont happen) I am sure this illegal From UAE Labour Law, Article 65: The maximum normal working hours for adult employees shall be eight hours per day or forty eight hours per week. However, working hours for the employees of commercial establishments, hotels, restaurants, watchmen and similar operations may be increased to nine hours per day as determined by the Minister of Labour. Likewise, working hours per day in respect of hazardous work or work detrimental to health, may be decreased by decision of the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs. During the month of Ramadan, normal working hours shall be reduced by two hours. Time spent by the employee in transport form his residence to the place of work shall not be included in the working hours. Also what's with people starting threads and then deleting their posts? That's twice this week. |
