Where are the best places to go?
Hi guys, I'm a Newbie in Dubai and on this site! I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on popular expat hangouts and social events where one can make friends and enjoy a bit of homely company!

I hear from my single mates that Tinder is pretty rewarding...

If a bar sounds like it's British, and looks like it's British, it's going to be full of the homely rewards of a British bar, with some added overseas spice thrown in for good measure.

The Brit Club if you're over 60 and and have a unfeasibly young wife.

Is this where we point out that some 85% of Dubai population are expats?
If you want to meet Brits, just say so.
There are hundreds of bars/pubs/clubs etc across the city so you need to be a little more specific. If you want homely, there are knitting groups too...

Haha!! Thanks guys, I guess I should have been a bit more specific and homely company means Brit! Like where do all the Brits hang out? I work in Jebel Ali and live in Qusais so location is not a problem as I drive and I'm near the metro station too.
Do people have 'after work drinks' here?!

I'd say Brits go to loads of places, but there are probably a few pubs/bars where you'll always find a few. Any 'Irish' pub - McGettigans, Fibbers, Irish Village, plus Girders, Belgian Beer Cafe, Stables, Jebel Ali Club, Boston Bar and many, many more.
If you want to meet like-minded people - who won't necessarily be Brits - look for organised groups. Time Out lists all sorts of events and groups.

Depends what you're into and what type of people you want to meet. There are loads of meet up groups here for new people, always loads of twatty men on the prowl for the new blood, but you can meet some nice people too. http://www.meetup.com/cities/ae/dubai/ Barastis is good for getting chatting to randoms, Irish village, McGettigans quiz night on Tuesday is fun, Stables, Fibber McGees, Rockbottoms (be pissed first) all full of friendly people. You can basically go to any bar hear and get talking to any number of guys ( quality not guaranteed), also go out at every opportunity- as you meet lots of people through people. Brunch is a good way of meeting a lot of people. Also if you're sporty there are some good groups for meeting fellow sports freaks. Kayaking is quite nice and you can be crap at it so no pressure to be bionic woman.
If you're lucky someone (Scamp) might organize a meet up on here soon.

For the OP - Millhouse is your best bet if you want to know where the swingers groups etc are located. If you don't drive then you can borrow a friend's car keys.
